In October 2016 I took a trip to New York City with my family and stayed at the brand new Innside New York NoMad by Melia on 132 W 27th St – between 6th and 7th Ave.
Here’s my honest hotel review of Innside by Melia:
I really like this hotel. It’s so modern and trendy, and the location is fantastic – just a few minutes from the High Line, Madison Square Park…to name a few. In the lobby area there’s a bar and restaurant, which connects to an outdoor patio. Downstairs is another restaurant where breakfast is served (not incl.).
THE ROOM / DELUXE KING ROOM:
Our room was on the 12th floor with a view of 27th street and just behind the buildings on the other side of the street, we could see the top of the Empire State Building. We stayed in a Deluxe King Room, which is one of the hotel’s standard rooms. It also comes with a queen bed.
On the hotel’s website, they use the word “spacious” to describe this room. In reality it’s really small, measuring just 260 sq. ft. It is, however, very comfortable except for a few minor (perhaps silly) things.
What I didn’t like about this room was the tables, the bathroom and the closet. Everything is modern and beautiful, but somehow not very well thought out.
This room doesn’t have a desk but just a weird round table that functions as a desk. The space is okay for 1 person to sit and work at. The bedside tables are the same, round tables but with extremely little space to put your things on .
The bathroom sink is very cool, but it has almost no space around it to put your toiletries. The drawer underneath the sink is already stuffed with extra towels, hairdryer, Kleenex box, etc. – so there’s no room for anything else. One thing I was really missing was a glass for toothbrushes and toothpaste – we ended up using a coffee cup instead!
Also, there’s not enough space to hang the towels in the bathroom. There are 2 hooks above the toilet, but the towels don’t have any loops so they keep falling off. The shower is, however, AMAZING! And I really like the shampoo, conditioner and shower gel – especially the fact that they come in large bottles mounted to the wall!
The closet is open with a rack to hang your clothes on, but not enough hangers (in my opinion). There’s a bottom and a top shelf and 2 drawers. My husband never unpacks (thank God), so I can use the entire closet space all to myself. Even though I’ve packed super light for this trip, I can barely fit all of my clothes in the closet!
The bed, however, is great and the sheets and pillows are very soft and comfortable. The room has floor to ceiling windows that open just a little bit, but enough to get some air inside.
WIFI, mini bar (water, juice and Coca Cola) and Nespresso coffee are all included and re-filled daily, which is absolutely amazing!
The hotel also has a nice gym with good equipment. Although it is also small, it has everything you need to get a good workout. If you go in the morning, there’s hardly anyone using it. There’s also a nice, rather big patio connected to the gym – perfect for outdoor yoga…when it’s not too cold.
Having said all this, don’t get me wrong! Despite everything…despite my somewhat insignificant issues with the room and bathroom, I still love this hotel.
I would definitely stay here again!
