It’s Monday again and it’s September 11th. 16 years ago, the world witnessed the worst terror attack ever…at least as far as I can remember.
Do you remember where you were and what you were doing that day when you found out?
I remember it exactly. I had just come home to my dorm room from class at the University and was eating a sandwich when I saw the first of the Twin Towers burning on CNN.
At first, I didn’t realize what I was watching something from a movie.
Then it hit me. This was real.
It was a world that was so far away from me. At that time, I’d never been to New York before and it was still just a dream. But somehow they world seemed like a smaller place. A changed place. It was as if I was right there.
Of course, everything that followed was a nightmare and the loss of lives simply devastating.
Who would do such a terrible thing? Well, it seemed that the world changed forever and for good that day.
There’s a quote by Ernest Hemingway that I like and it goes:
The world breaks everyone and afterward many are strong in the broken places.
A Farewell to Arms.
I like to think that there is some truth to that.
