#70 – Morning Routine

What’s your morning routine? Do you have one?

I’ve read that successful people tend to get up early and that they have a fixed routine that helps them get the day started right and keeps them on track for success.

I love mornings. I’d much rather get up early than go to bed late or stay up all night. I guess when you get up early, your body automatically adjusts so that you need to go to sleep early too.

My favorite part is that it’s so quiet in the morning. I usually set my alarm anywhere between 5:45 am and 6:30 am. I try to aim for 7 hours of sleep, so the actual time may vary depending on when I go to bed. At this time of the year, it’s dark when I wake up in the morning. I haven’t quite mastered the art of not hitting the snooze button, so I’ll typically lay for 15 minutes before actually getting up.

The first thing I do is work out. I’ll do a quick and intensive 25 minute HIIT (high intensity interval training) workout (right now I’m doing Focus T25) and/or some strength training using a pair of 10 pound dumbbells. I really do prefer to work out in the morning, because it gives me so much energy to go through the day. As soon as I don’t do the workouts or skip a few days, I feel so tired both mentally and physically.

So, I always go back to working out.

That’s always how I start my day – workout, black coffee, check emails or mess around on the internet, breakfast, make lunch, shower, get dressed and go to work…

I’m constantly amazed, though, at how quickly time passes by in the morning. I feel like I can hardly blink and it’s already 8:30 or 9 am and time to go to work.
