Can I Manage Your Personal Life?

Sometimes I wonder what goes through people’s mind when they comment on other people’s social media posts.

I like getting comments and likes (the social currency of our time) but recently, I’ve received a few comments that I just found incredibly inappropriate and downright strange.

On the photo that I posted on Instagram of my mother in order to mark the 3rd anniversary of her death, a travel agency from Iran (!) posted a comment like “come see Iran” or some bullshit like that. I can’t even remember the exact words, as I deleted the comment as soon as I saw it. I mean, how inappropriate is it to post a “sales comment” on a highly personal photo like that? Thinking about it now, it was probably a bot comment… and I just hate that even more!

The other day, I got another comment on another of my Instagram posts from a social media company offering to manage my account…

You want to manage my personal Instagram account where I post personal photos of my personal life based on my current mood that you know absolutely nothing about?

Maybe it was another bot comment….although, they did start it off by writing my name…but maybe bots can do that too?

I don’t need or want anyone to manage my Instagram account nor my personal life…I’m not a child. I am very capable of doing that myself but thank you very much, though, for your offer.

I could, of course just make my Instagram account private (I don’t want to) in order to avoid these types of comments or stop posting personal photos…

Regardless, I just think that if you’re going to comment on a stranger’s post, you should do it carefully.

And if you’re going to use a bot service because you somehow think that’s better, then you should seriously re-consider because it’s not.
